What's appropriate to wear to a Bar or Bat Mitzvah

Men and boys should wear suits and ties. Women should wear clothing that reflects the importance of the event and the dignity of the Rabbi and Torah. In other words, a synagogue just isn't the place for acres of decolletage. Rule of thumb: You're always safe with a modest dress or suit. It's a good idea to check if the synagogue you've been invited to allows women to wear pants; many Orthodox and some Conservative temples don't.

If you're attending a celebration that's in another location, you can relax the rules a bit; one option many women chose is wearing a jacket over a dress, then removing the jacket at the party.
