Inexpensive Centerpieces

Can anyone give me advice on making inexpensive centerpieces? I think I want to do them myself this time. I've been to Michael's and seen the styrofoam balls and am thinking I'll spray them with glitter or something and put some candy around it (that's our theme). Anyone done this before?

Be careful!

Just my opinion but I'd definitely stay away from such home made looking projects, especially things made with glitter. Unless they're incredibly well made they end up looking like something your kid made in school!

Better idea

A cleaner, cuter and more professional looking idea, again just my opinion, would be to get big glass vases and fill THEM with candy. You said that's your theme, right? You can always stick flowers or even plants on top. I saw that done at someone's simcha this year and it was pretty cute.
